8 Scenic Spots of Hongu

Former Kumano Hongu Taisha stood here until 1889 in which it was flooded away. This spot is famous for the birthplace of Kumano faith. Currently the middle and lower four shrines are worshipped. The moss-covered stone walls, still standing as ever before, are also precious. In the thick woods, you can enjoy cherry blossoms in spring and tinted leaves in autumn.

5 min walk from Kumano Hongu Taisha.
(Go along Goko-michi Road in front of the torii gateway.)
