Kawayu-Jyuni-Yakushi Festival

The Jyuni-Yakushi is a guardian deity of Kawayu Onsen. According to legend, around 1650 the image was stationed on the other side of the river, but as more and more inns were built at Kawayu, it was moved to the present place.

To appreciate the pains of the folks those days, a rope is stretched to the other side and deep-fried food is offered one a year.
After being moved here when the Kawayu inns and houses were constructed, local people have been worshipping the image, which keeps in sync with the history of Kawayu Onsen. The image will be guarding this place and its people.
