For the visitors planning to walk Kumano Kodo ancient pilgrimage routes (As of May 19, 2020)

We are very sorry to make this request to visitors, but in order to avoid COVID-19 infection, please keep on staying away from the areas along Kumano Kodo for the time being, if possible.

The state of emergency in Wakayama Prefecture was lifted, but Wakayama Prefectural Government still keep on requesting visitors stay away.
Many transportation haven’t restarted the usual operation and many facilities and accommodations haven’t reopened. This area is still inconvenient to travel.

The present condition of spots and transportation near Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine is as below, but it can be changed according to the condition of the infection.

●Kumano Kodo ancient pilgrimage routes are available to walk, but public buses convenient for walking are suspended. Access bus for Koyasan is also suspended.

※Public buses for Hosshinmon-oji will restart running at Saturday, May 23. They are convenient for Kumano Kodo walk.

●Taxi is available only in weekdays.

●River boat tours are suspended.

●Most accommodations and camp grounds are closed.

●Many restaurants and lunch shops are closed.

●Some grocery shops are closed.

●Some public bathhouses in onsen areas are open only for short hours in the evening mainly for the local people.

●Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine is open only for seven hours from 8:00 to 15:00.

●Kumano Hongu Heritage Center, a visitor center, is closed.
