Heiji-no-taki Falls

8 Scenic Spots of Hongu

The two-stage waterfall in River Heiji, tributary of Yomuragawa River, is about 50 m high. Legend has it that a giant serpent inhabited here. There are many old trees around here, and the view from the falls front is majestic and mysterious with a small shrine (the God of Fire). The summit is a sort of fortress where it is said the Heike-clan survivors lived hidden.

30 min by car and 10 min walk from Kumano Hongu Taisha
